The gastrointestinal tract produces several peptide hormones that participate in regulation of food intake. Some, such as cholecystokinin, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), polypeptide YY(3—36), and oxyntomodulin, decrease food intake, and at least one, ghrelin, increases food intake.
