Going small is the new big

Two methods describing gene expression and chromatin profiling of small cell numbers make progress toward achieving comprehensive integrated molecular views of defined cell populations.

A powerful approach to decipher normal and diseased biological processes is the characterization of genome-wide molecular genetic and epigenetic profiles. One of the major challenges of obtaining an integrated view of cellular functions is to develop technologies that enable the global multilevel molecular characterization of small numbers of cells.
